Lidex Ointment topical is used to help relieve redness, itching, swelling, or other discomfort caused by skin conditions. This medicine is a corticosteroid (cortisone-like medicine or steroid).

This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Use Lidex ointment as directed by your doctor. Follow all instructions closely and use them on your skin only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes.

• Wash your hands before and after use. Do not wash your hands after use if putting this on your hand.
• Clean the affected part before use. Make sure to dry well.
• Put a thin layer on the affected skin and rub it gently.
• Do not use coverings (bandages, dressings) unless told to do so by the doctor.

Before using Lidex ointment, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you have dental surgery,
• If you are allergic to Lidex ointment, any other medications, or any of the ingredients,
• Be sure to mention the following: other corticosteroid medications and other topical medications,
• If you have an infection, skin problems, or have ever had diabetes, liver disease, or Cushing's syndrome,
• If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using Lidex, call your doctor immediately.

Lidex ointment may cause common side effects, including: 

• burning, itching, irritation, redness, drying or cracking of the skin
• acne
• change in skin color
• bruising or shiny skin
• tiny red bumps or rash around the mouth
• small white or red bumps on the skin

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

• severe skin rash
• redness, swelling, oozing pus or other signs of skin infection in the place where you applied
• fluocinonide
• changes in the way fat are spread around the body
• sudden weight gain
• unusual tiredness
• muscle weakness
• depression and irritability

Lidex ointment may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while using this medication.

Can you apply Lidex ointment to your face?

Lidex ointment is a powerful steroid used to treat various inflammatory skin conditions. Still, it should never be used on highly sensitive areas—such as your face, groin or underarms—unless specifically directed by a physician.

How long should you apply Lidex ointment?

Please do not use Lidex ointment for longer than two weeks in a row or use more than 60 grams per week unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or worsens after two weeks of treatment.

What adverse effects may Lidex Ointment cause in children?

Children who use Lidex ointment may have an increased risk of side effects, including slowed growth and delayed weight gain.
