What is Taclonex Ointment?

Taclonex Ointment treats the itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling, inflammation, and discomfort of various skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema. Betamethasone is in a class of medications called corticosteroids. It works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce swelling, redness, and itching.

Taclonex Ointment t is very important that you use this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Read and follow the instructions carefully. To use the Taclonex ointment:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
  • Apply a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin and rub it in gently. To help clear up your skin or scalp problem completely, you must keep using this medicine for full-time treatment.
  • Unless your doctor tells you to, the treated areas should not be bandaged or covered after the medicine is applied. Only use the ointment for up to four weeks if your doctor has told you to.

Before Taking Taclonex Ointment

Before using Taclonex Ointment, tell your doctor or pharmacist
if you are allergic to betamethasone or calcipotriene or have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: a certain mineral imbalance or thin skin in the areas to be treated.

This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor immediately if you get sunburned or have skin blisters/redness. Your doctor may direct you to limit or avoid phototherapy while you use this product. Ask your doctor for details.

Taclonex Ointment Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Taclonex: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have the following:

  • Worsening your skin condition;
  • Redness, warmth, swelling, oozing, or severe irritation of any treated skin;
  • Blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights;
  • High calcium levels - confusion, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, increased thirst or urination, weight loss;
  • High blood sugar - increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath odor; or
  • Possible signs of absorbing this medicine through your skin - are weight gain, slow wound healing, thinning or discolored skin, increased body hair, muscle weakness, nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, mood changes, menstrual changes, and sexual changes.

Common Taclonex side effects may include:

  • Skin color changes;
  • Worsening of psoriasis;
  • Skin irritation, rash, itching, redness, or hives;
  • Redness or crusting around your hair follicles; or
  • Headache.

What happens if you miss a dose of Taclonex Ointment?

Apply for the Taclonex Ointment as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not apply two doses at one time.

What happens if you overdose on Taclonex Ointment?

High doses or long-term use of Taclonex can lead to thinning skin, easy bruising, changes in body fat, increased acne or facial hair, menstrual problems, impotence, or loss of interest in sex.

What should you avoid while using Taclonex Ointment?

Avoid using other skin medications that contain betamethasone or calcipotriene. Do not use Taclonex to treat any skin condition your doctor has not checked.

Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes, face, underarms, groin area, or thin skin.

Taclonex could make you sunburn more easily. Avoid sunlight or tanning beds. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.
