Differin Gel is a topical medicine similar to vitamin A. It works by decreasing acne formation. It helps the skin to renew itself and treats severe acne in people at least 12 years old.

Use Differin Gel as directed by your doctor or the product package, usually once daily at bedtime. Before using, gently clean the affected skin with a mild or soapless cleanser and pat dry.

Use your fingertips to apply a small amount of medication in a thin layer. 

During the first few weeks of using Differin Gel, your acne might appear worse because the medication is working on pimples forming inside the skin. It may take 8 to 12 weeks to notice results from this medication.

Use Differin Gel regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. Please do not use a larger amount or more often than directed. Your skin will not improve any faster, and your risk of developing side effects will increase.

Before taking Differin Gel, tell your doctor:

• if you are allergic to adapalene,
• if you have other medical conditions,
• if you are breastfeeding a baby,
• if you are pregnant.

Differin Gel is not approved for use by anyone younger than 12.

More common side effects of Differin Gel include:

• burning sensation or stinging of the skin
• dryness and peeling of skin

Can Differin Gel make acne worse?

Some people might notice that their acne worsens when using Differin Gel. It is common and expected during the first four weeks of use. After that, your skin should start to improve.

Can Differin Gel makes your skin sensitive?

Avoid sunlight or artificial UV rays. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing if you must be out in the sun. Differin Gel can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and sunburn may result.

What should you avoid while using Differin Gel?

Do not use skin products that contain alpha hydroxy or glycolic acid while using Differin Gel.
