Entocort is in a class of medications called corticosteroids. Entocort EC is a steroid that reduces inflammation in the body. It works by decreasing inflammation (swelling) in the digestive tract of people who have Crohn's disease. Entocort EC is used to treat mild to moderate Crohn's disease.

Doctor's prescription is required to use this medicine.

Always use Entocort as directed by your physician.

Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets.

Budesonide comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day in the morning. Take this medicine in the morning with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break a Entocort EC capsule or tablet. Swallow it whole.

Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Always use Entocort exactly as directed by your doctor.

Before using Entocort, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history. Tell your doctor about all the other prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking.

You should not breast-feed while using this medicine.

Entocort EC is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

You may get infections more easily while using this medicine. Avoid people who are sick or have infections. Tell your doctor right away if you have been exposed to someone with chickenpox or measles.

Make sure any doctor or dentist who treats you knows that you are using this medicine. You may need to stop using this medicine several days before having surgery or medical tests.

Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Runny nose, sneezing, coughing
• Nausea
• Indigestion
• Abdominal pain
• Gas
• Vomiting
• Fatigue
• Back pain
• Pain

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

• Itching
• Skin rash
• Fever
• Swelling of face and neck
• Difficulty breathing
• Severe headache
• Changes in vision
• Acne
• Bruising

What happens if I miss a dose?

Skip the missed dose and wait until your next scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

In case of overdose, call the poison control helpline. If the victim has collapsed, had a seizure, has trouble breathing, or can't be awakened, immediately call emergency services.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of reach of children.

Store at room temperature.

Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

What should I avoid while taking Entocort?

Grapefruit may interact with Entocort EC and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products.

Avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Call your doctor for preventive treatment if you are exposed to chickenpox or measles. These conditions can be serious or even fatal in people who are using Entocort EC.
