Maxidex Eye Drops is a prescription medication that is used to treat eye inflammation caused by a range of conditions including allergies, shingles, iritis, uveitis, acne or eye injuries, burns and other causes. Maxidex ophthalmic contains the steroid dexamethasone.

Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Wash your hands before using. Remove contact lenses and wait at least 15 minutes before replacing them. Shake the eye drops well.
• Tip your head backward, using your finger to pull down your lower eyelid. Holding the eyedropper directly above the eye, squeeze out a single drop. Keep your eyes closed for 2-3 minutes.
• Do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or allow it to touch your eye or any surface to prevent contamination.
• Do not stop using Maxidex suddenly.
• If you need to take this medication for more than ten days then you may need your vision checked.

Make sure to tell your doctor:

• If you have any drug or other allergies.
• If you take any other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
• Your medical history especially of glaucoma or cataracts.
• If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Long-term use of Maxidex may harm an unborn infant.
• If you are breast-feeding.

Other information you should also know:

• Maxidex should not be used by anyone younger than 18.
• You should not share this medication with anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms.

Common side effects of Maxidex Eye Drops:

• Eye irritation

If you have any of the following dexamethasone side effects, seek medical help:

• Eye pain.
• Blurred vision.
• Tunnel vision.
• Seeing halos around lights.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction including difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Maxidex Eye Drops?

If you miss a dose of Maxidex Eye Drops, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.
