Mydriacyl Eye Drops are used to dilate (enlarge) the pupil so the doctor can see into the back of your eye. Mydriacyl may also be used before and after eye surgery.

To use Mydriacyl eye drops, follow your doctor's directions on the label. Use this medicine only as directed. Please do not use more of it and do not use it more often than your doctor ordered. 

First, wash your hands. Tilt the head back and, pressing your finger gently on the skin just beneath the lower eyelid, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to make a space. 
Drop the Mydriacyl into this space. Let go of the eyelid and gently close the eyes. Do not blink. Keep the eyes closed and apply pressure to the inner corner of the eye with your finger for 2 or 3 minutes to allow the medicine to be absorbed by the eye. 

To keep the Mydriacyl eye drops germ-free, do not touch the applicator tip on any surface (including the eye). Also, keep the container tightly closed.

Before using Mydriacyl eye drops, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: 

• Personal or family history of glaucoma, 
• High blood pressure, 
• Overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), 
• Diabetes, heart disease, Down syndrome, 
• Brain damage or spastic paralysis (in children),
• Pregnant or breastfeeding
• If you are allergic to it; or have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. 

Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly and children because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug, especially mental/mood changes (such as agitation).

Symptoms of an overdose of Mydriacyl eye drops being absorbed into the body:

• Clumsiness or unsteadiness
• Confusion
• Fast heartbeat
• Redness of the face
• Hallucinations 
• Dryness of mouth
• Skin rash
• Slurred speech
• Swollen stomach in infants
• Unusual behavior, especially in children
• Unusual drowsiness, tiredness, or weakness

More common side effects of Mydriacyl eye drops include:

• Blurred vision
• Headache
• Sensitivity of eyes to light
• Stinging of the eye when the medicine is applied

Mydriacyl eye drops may cause blurred vision or make your eyes very sensitive to light. This effect may last as long as 24 hours. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be able to see clearly.
