Optivar Eye Drops (antihistamines) treat itchy eyes caused by allergies (hay fever).

Follow your doctor's directions for Optivar Eye Drops on the label. To use Optivar Eye Drops:

• First, wash your hands. Tilt the head back and, pressing your finger gently on the skin just beneath the lower eyelid, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to make a space. Drop the medicine into this space. Let go of the eyelid and gently close the eyes. Keep the eyes closed for 1 to 2 minutes to allow the medicine to be absorbed by the eye. Do not blink.
• Immediately after using the eye drops, please wash your hands to remove any medicine.
• To keep the medicine germ-free, do not touch the applicator tip on any surface (including the eye). Also, keep the container tightly closed.

Before taking Optivar Eye Drops, tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding and all medicines you use.

The most common side effects of Optivar Eye Drops include the following:

• blurred vision (temporary),
• headache, and
• bitter taste in your mouth

How long do you use Optivar Eye Drops?

Use Optivar Eye Drops twice a day as long as you have allergy-related eye itching. Long-term use of Optivar Eye Drops for up to 8 weeks is not usually a problem. 

Can you wear contacts while on Optivar Eye Drops?

Do not use Optivar Eye Drops while wearing soft contact lenses. A preservative in Optivar Eye Drops could permanently stain the lenses. Use the medicine for at least 10 minutes before inserting your contact lenses.

What are the possible side effects of Optivar Eye Drops?

Optivar Eye Drops may temporarily sting or burn your eyes for a minute or two after use.
