Trintellix is a prescription medication that is used to treat the major depressive disorder (depression). Trintellix contains the antidepressant drug vortioxetine. The medication works by affecting certain chemicals in the patient’s brain that may be unbalanced.

Make sure to always read the patient information and instructions before using this medication. Always follow your doctor’s directions.

• Trintellix can be taken with or without food.
• You should continue taking this medication even when you feel well.
• Your doctor may start you with a low dosage of Trintellix and gradually increase it over time.
• Do not stop taking Trintellix suddenly as this may cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
• It may take several weeks to feel the full benefits of Trintellix. Continue to take the medication regularly.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• About any allergies.

You should also know:

• Some young people may have suicidal thoughts when they first start taking an antidepressant. Watch out for mood or symptom changes.
• Trintellix is not approved to be used by anyone younger than 18.
• You should not take an MAO inhibitor within 14 days before or 21 days after taking Trintellix.
• Trintellix may affect your reactions. Do not drive or operate machinery until it can be done safely.

Common side effects of Trintellix include but are not limited to:

• Nausea and vomiting.
• Constipation.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of vortioxetine:

• Easy bruising or bleeding.
• Coughing up blood.
• Eye pain, redness, or swelling.
• Vision changes.
• New or worsening symptoms including changes to your mood or behavior, panic attacks, sleeping problems, depression, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, anxiety, impulsiveness, agitation, irritation, hostility, restlessness, hyperactivity, or aggressiveness.
• Signs of a manic episode including feelings of extreme happiness or sadness, decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts, being more talkative than usual or unusual risk-taking.
• Signs of a low sodium level including slurred speech, feeling unsteady, confusion, hallucinations, memory problems, or severe weakness.
• Signs of serotonin syndrome including fast heart rate, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sweating, agitation, hallucinations, muscle stiffness, twitching, loss of coordination, or shivering.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Trintellix?

If you miss a dose of Trintellix, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.
