|Vytorin (Ezetimibe/Simvastatin) - Also known as Inegy Internationally|
Vytorin is a combination medication of ezetimibe and simvastatin. Vytorin is used to lower blood levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides, to increase levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL), and to lower triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood). Vytorin is used together with a low-fat diet and other treatments to lower total cholesterol in adults and children who are at least 10 years old. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.
Vytorin contains a combination of ezetimibe and simvastatin. Ezetimibe works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs from your diet. Simvastatin belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low-cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking.
Always read the patient information and instructions carefully before using this medication.
