Xyzal Oral Solution is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms such as a runny nose or hives.

Xyzal is used to treat itching and swelling caused by chronic urticaria (hives) and symptoms of year-round (perennial) allergies in children at least six months old.

If your doctor has prescribed Xyzal Oral Solution, take it as directed. Read and follow all directions on the product package before taking this medication. 

Xyzal Oral Solution is taken orally with or without food, usually daily in the evening measure the dose carefully using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than directed.

Before taking Xyzal Oral Solution, tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you are allergic to it,
• Other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking,
• If you have or ever have had kidney disease,
• If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant and breastfeed,
• Be sure to mention the following: antidepressants; medications for anxiety, mental illness, or seizures; ritonavir, sedatives; sleeping pills; theophylline and tranquilizers.

Xyzal Oral Solution may cause serious side effects, including:

• worsening allergy or urticaria symptoms,
• painful or difficult urination,
• little or no urination,
• lightheadedness,
• fever,
• ear pain or full feeling,
• trouble hearing,
• drainage from the ear, and
• fussiness in a child

Get medical help immediately if you have any of the symptoms listed above.

The most common side effects of Xyzal Oral Solution include the following:

• drowsiness,
• tiredness,
• sinus pain,
• ear infection,
• cough,
• fever,
• nosebleed,
• vomiting,
• diarrhea,
• constipation,
• dry mouth, and
• weight gain

Tell the doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or does not go away.

Is it safe to drink alcohol while taking Xyzal Oral Solution?

You should know that Xyzal Oral Solution may make you drowsy. Alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this medication. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

What happens if you miss a dose of Xyzal Oral Solution?

Take medicine as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.
